4 State BPO Code (British Post
Office, Royal Mail Code)
BPO (British Post Office) 4 State Code is a new postal
bar code symbology that has been developed by the British Post office
for encoding European postcode data similar to the way the U.S.
PostNET symbology is used for encoding Zip Code data.
The goal of BPO 4 State Code is to provide European countries with
a simple and efficient postal bar coding scheme.
AZTEC Code (a high density 2 dimensional
matrix style bar code )
Aztec's primary features include: a wide range of sizes
allowing both small and large messages to be encoded, orientation
independent scanning and a user selectable error correction mechanism.
Codabar (Full ASCII-Character set
with Code128 ABC autoselection)
Codabar is a binary level barcode originally developed
by Monarch Marking in 1972. It is also called NW-7 because all Codabar
characters are constructed from four bars and the three intervening
spaces. It is a self-checking, discrete symbology having 16 characters
in its set.
Code 128 (Full ASCII-Character set
with Code128 ABC autoselection)
Code 128 was introduced in 1981 as a
very high-density alphanumeric symbology. Since 1990, it has seen
increasing adoption in a variety of applications. It has the ability
to adapt itself to all-numeric data or to alphanumeric data.
Code 39 (Also known as USD-3 &
Code 3 of 9)
Code 39 is a widely used industrial
barcode and is mandated for some automotive industry and Department
of Defense labels, because of its ability to represent alphanumeric
data.
Code 49
Code 49 was developed in 1987 by Intermec
Technologies to fill a need to pack a lot of information into a
very small symbol.
A bar code symbology that is multirow, fixed length, and continuous,
variable symbology encoding the full ASCII 128 character set.
Code 93
Code 93 was introduced in 1982. It was
specifically designed to provide a more compact version of Code
39 due to its high-density complement.
EAN (EAN-13, EAN-8 EAN-99)
The European Article Numbering
system (EAN) is a superset of UPC and was initially introduced
in 1977 by an EAN association of EEC countries.
EAN-13 is used worldwide for marking retail goods.
Interleaved 2 of 5 Code (also
referred to as USS ITF 2/5, ITF and I-2/5)
Interleaved 2 of 5 is a high-density, self-checking,
continuous numeric symbology.
Maxi Code
MaxiCode is a fixed size 2D matrix style
symbology.
The design of the MaxiCode symbology was chosen because it is well
suited to high speed, orientation independent scanning.
MSI/Plessey Code
The Plessey Company in England originally developed Plessey
Code with formal specifications first dated in 1971. It gave rise
to several variations including the MSI, Anker, and Telxon codes.
Of these, the MSI Plessey is till in use in the United States; it
is used in libraries, and is often used for retail grocery shelf
marking.
PDF417 Code
PDF417 is a two-dimensional, stacked, public-domain barcode
developed in 1990 by Symbol Technology. (PDF stands for Portable
Data File. )
The symbol is rectangular; the shape of the symbol can be adjusted
to some extent by setting the width and allowing the height to grow
with the data.
UPC (UPC-A & UPC-E)
The Universal Product Code (UPC)
has been successfully employed in the retail industry in the United
